Massage Helps to reduce anxiety

Massage therapy is essential to the management of anxiety and mood disorders in our lives. Not only do we allow stress to permeate our peace of mind, we also allow it to take over our physical bodies as well. Obvious signs of stress, which can easily lead to anxiety, can be seen in postural changes, such as hunching our shoulders; slumping to one side; shallow breathing patterns which all affect how we move every day. But stress can also lead to further problems that are harder to identify as being related to stress, a few of which include skin rashes or breakouts; jaw pain (from grinding or clenching); lower back pain; muscle spasms; numbness or weakness in muscles; headaches; changed breathing patterns which can increase the frequency of asthma attacks.

A registered massage therapist will help you identify these outward signs and decrease the negative effects on your body. As your therapist decreases the tension in your too tight muscles, by engaging your sympathetic nervous system (which is the resting state), your mind and body have a chance to rebuild and repair the damage that has been done to your body with the increased levels of cortisol in your system (the stress hormone). The Touch Institute from the University of Miami conducted a study (Field et all 1995d) confirming that with massage, breathing patterns in their test subjects improved; raised blood pressure levels decreased; the levels of cortisol were also measured and showed to decrease; as well as the perception of stress in the subjects also was significantly decreased.

So do your body some good, and book your massage today to help decrease the stress in your life so that it doesn’t snowball into long term anxiety or mood disorders.

Getting Healthier With Integrative Medicine

Getting Healthier With Integrative Medicine

How do you make an informed choice when you are looking for a health care practitioner? Why should you choose Integrative Medicine over Conventional Medicine?

1. What is Integrative Medicine?

2. Why should I choose Integrative Medicine over Conventional Medicine?

3. How to find the right Integrative Healer for you.

1. Integrative medicine is a holistic medicine which depends on a partnership between the patient and the doctor, where the goal is to treat the mind, body, and spirit, all at the same time.

2. Some compelling reasons to choose Integrative Medicine are:

To be proactive, to take control and charge of decisions that affect your health, your experience, your results and outcomes.

To fully participate in your own care and your own decisions rather than giving decision-making power away to your care providers.

To create a sense of empowerment and accountability rather than be disenfranchised and disempowered.

To decrease and manage your uncertainty, fear, stress and anxiety and to support, increase and improve your peace of mind.

To enable your care providers to work with you as a team and for them to show respect for your values, your feelings and your choices in all decisions.

3. To find candidates in your area, search online using the phrase, ‘Find an Integrative Energy Healing Practitioner’. Remember that healing practitioners have different strengths, specialities and interests. Call or email the practitioner you are interested in and interview them to see if they are someone who you could build a relationship of trust with. Their expertise, experience and understanding are there to support your health goals. Ask them how they would best support your goals and needs. Sometimes the best way to make a decision is by receiving a treatment from that practitioner. If you feel that your health concerns will be fully met by the practitioner, your choice will be made.

Sneak Peek into the Being in Balance

Being in Balance Store frontPlease Join us for our Grand Opening Sunday December 15th ! We will be doing giveaways and draws for free services!

Here is a sneak peak into our Center …

The ‘Being in Balance’; our new business located in Shelburne; will be open to the community on Sunday, December 15th at 1:30 – 4:00, to celebrate our Grand Opening. We are located at 155 Main Street West and our phone number is 519 925-1999.

At the ‘Being in Balance’ we have a clinic which offers a variety of different healing modalities such as; Acupuncture, Acupressure, Registered Massage Therapy, Aromatherapy Massage , Reiki, Indian Head Massage, Reflexology, Medical Intuition, Psychotherapy, Chakra Balancing, EFT and Reconnecting Healing. We have a studio in which we will be offering daily Yoga , Tai Chi and Zumba classes.

Our Center has retail space where we will sell supplements, Crystals, precious stones and custom jewelry.

We will be hosting different programs, classes and workshops including Art lessons for children, Guitar lessons, Singing lessons and other programs designed for and focused on personal growth and development.

In October, the Being in Balance ran a contest at Centre Dufferin District High School in which the art students were asked to design and create a mural for our Yoga studio. The offered prize was $150 in cash and $350 in clinic services. The winner was Ms. Diane Davies, a grade 12 art student. Diane designed and created a unique and original painting which now graces one of the Yoga studio walls and which is an inspiration to everyone who enters the room.

One of our objectives for the Center is to offer help and guidance to everyone in our community and beyond, on their journey of achieving , maintaining or finding health and wellness.

We are implementing a program called “Helping Hands” which is designed to help people who may not otherwise be able to afford Integrative Medicine. We plan on asking visitors who come in to the Center to enter the name and contact information of someone who they think would most benefit from our Helping Hands bowl . Each month each one of our 9 practitioners and teachers will take a name from the Helping Hands and offer their services to the lucky candidate for free .

It’s very important to the Energy Team, that people in our community know that there are different options available for their health and that they can be found at the Being in Balance.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00-3:00 the Center will host an event called ‘Community Acupuncture’, which will provide members of the community with an affordable way to address different health conditions. During Community Acupuncture, clients will have the opportunity to receive an Acupuncture treatment for only $20. This pricing will allow everyone to afford another tool in their health care.

Please contact me for more information and we hope to see you there!
